Pearson Test of English (PTE) is dedicated to testing, assessing and validating the usage of the English language by non-native English speakers. The scenario-based exams are accredited by the Ofqual and QCA and administered together with the largest examining body in the world- Edexcel.
Launched in 2009, PTE Academic is endorsed by GMAC, the organisation that owns the GMAT exam. Nearly 6,000 organisations including colleges, universities, and governments across the world have recognized the PTE Academic. Actually, PTE is a much easier option than IELTS for a couple of reasons. PTE is less strict when it comes to ‘Writing’ assessment criteria. It is more lenient than the super-strict evaluation criteria followed by IELTS.
In the case of PTE, the number of questions, including essays, is limited. This makes it easy for students to prepare well for the ‘Written’ test.
PTE Academic Test
This test assesses the capability of non-native English speakers in participating instruction programmes at the university level. The computer-based examination focuses on the usage of English in real life in academic settings. This means that the test employs integrated language and students have to listen to varied accents as well as academic language which they are likely to encounter at universities. The test includes the candidate’s unmarked voice recording. This biometric data assists institutions in the verification of a candidate’s identity. The duration of the test is 3 hours and scores are reported by way of the Global Scale of English.
How To Apply For The PTE Exam
The application process is very simple. It all starts with registration and booking a test date. The registration involves creating a Pearson account. On creation of the account, candidates will receive an email with log in details within 48 hours. Once the login details are available, the test can be scheduled for the desired date after filling in the application form and paying the fee. In the application form, candidates must fill in their name as it appears on their ID document. This is done in order to present the document on the day of the test.

PTE Academic Exam Format
Candidates will have to go to a Pearson test center. They will have to use a computer and read, listen to using a headset, and answer questions. The three main parts of the three-hour test are speaking and writing, reading, and listening. A 10-minute break is allowed between reading and listening sessions.
